While we've already been treated to Michael Jackson games on both the Wii and 360, through Kinect, which both got you up, and on your feet in an attempt to match the King of Pop's moves, it seems Ubisoft aren't finished yet. Announced at the recent games show, E3, Michael Jackson: The Experience will be coming to the 3DS, and Sony's new handheld, the Vita, later this year.
Of course, you could be forgiven for thinking we've seen this all before, but it sounds as though Michael Jackson: The Experience for the 3DS will be an entirely new game. Built from the ground up for the console, the 3DS edition of the game looks set to right several of the flaws we found with the Kinect version, including adding three tiers of difficulty, letting anyone, from rhythm action novices, right the way through to dancing veterans find their feet.
Rather than getting up and strutting your stuff in front of your 3DS, you'll instead use your stylus on the touch screen to draw shapes, and perform gestures, to control your virtual Jackson on the top screen. Quite how it's going to work, we're not entirely sure, but Ubisoft have assured us they've gone to great lengths to make it so you'll be able to keep your eyes glued on the top screen, while controlling it on the touch screen. It'll be interesting to see how it works.
With "multiple" challenges on offer in each song, and a ranking system for you to climb as you complete each track, there'll be plenty of extras and goodies for you to unlock, from costumes, to multipliers, which makes the 3DS version sound as though it'll have a much more robust single player mode than before, which is another huge improvement over the 360 offering. In fact, the only area it sounds like MJ might disappoint is in the selection of songs. With a measly 15 tracks on offer, compared to the recent 360 version's almost double, while there's no doubt all the major hits are going to be in there - Thriller, Bad, Smooth Criminal, etc, it still feels like we're getting a bit short changed. We'll have to just wait and see how it turns out. In the mean time, you can find a trailer below - get your sequinned glove ready, and enjoy.
