Parent's Guide

Senran Kagura: Bon Appetit is a rhythm action game, in which players press buttons in time with the music to cook various dishes for a cooking contest. Playing as one of the scantily clad shinobis, up against other similarly clothed ninjas, whoever hits the most notes wins, while the loser looses a portion of their clothing, eventually being stripped down to their underwear (or even less if you play really well).

Button icons more from right to left across the screen, and by pressing the corresponding button at the correct time you earn points, and increase your hit combo. There's three different difficulties to choose from, and while normal can be a bit tricky, easy is suitably straight forward and should be fine for most people. Outside of the main rhythm action sections, each shinobi has their own story to play through, which range from the silly to the serious to the downright strange (one wants to make all the boobs in the world hers, having her own hooter harem island). Stories and cutscenes are only voiced in Japanese, with English subtitles, meaning a passable reading level is needed to fully enjoy the game - however none of it is critical to what you're doing, so you can simply skip over it without being left in the dark.

One thing worth noting though, is that Senran Kagura: Bon Appetit is effectively a game of two halves - the main portion of the game only includes half of the available songs and shinobis to play through, with the remainder up for download as an add-on for the same price again. It's not an essential buy however, as the game is still fully playable owning just the first portion, although some may wonder why half of the characters are locked off.

Mature Content

Oh dear, oh dear. Despite it's bubbly, brightly coloured anime exterior, Senran Kagura: Bon Appetit is pretty risque, packed with big, bouncing boobs, foul-mouthed females and plenty of innuendo. While it's based on the characters from the Senran Kagura fighting game, actual violence in Bon Appetit is pretty much non-existant. As you beat the other characters in the game's cook offs, their clothes will gradually blast away, revealing their underwear. If you do particularly well, they'll sometimes no clothes at all, with nothing but light covering their crotches and censored nipples. As a bonus for doing well in levels, you'll be treated to a cutscene of the character you just beat done up like a desert, naked, blushing and covered in chocolate and whipped cream in compromising positions. The 'dressing room' area lets you change into your unlocked clothes - including lingerie, maid's outfits and skin-tight catsuits - as well as poke the women's chests for squeaks and embarrassed reactions. All the characters are women here, too, with no blokes at all on the roster.
