What is Hello Kitty & Friends: Rockin' World Tour?

Hello Kitty & Friends: Rockin' World Tour is a 3DS game that combines simple match three puzzles with a basic rhythm action game, where players tap along to music, tapping icons to the beat for a high score. By completing stages both in the puzzle mode and in the concert mode, you'll earn points and medals which can be exchanged for new outfits and accessories for Kitty, as well as new instruments. Playing puzzles also unlocks new band members, which include familiar Sanrio faces like Badtz-Maru, My Melody and Chococat, and locales to perform songs at.

How do you play Hello Kitty & Friends: Rockin' World Tour?

Generally speaking, it's all fairly easy going - for the musical sections, you simply pick your instrument, and tap, swipe and hold your way through each of the game's twelve songs, matching your actions to the note symbols as they move towards the indicator at the end of the screen. The more on rhythm you are, the higher your score, and the better your rewards will be at the end of your performance. The puzzle mode is perhaps a tad trickier though, as each (generously timed) level gives you a list of two or three objectives to complete, such as getting a certain score, using a special block or clearing a combo of a certain length - and you need to complete the whole list in one sitting to pass. It is fairly forgiving though, and you can use some of your money to purchase items to make it easier, which let you destroy a number of blocks at once, shuffle everything on screen or increase the time limit.

How easy is Hello Kitty & Friends: Rockin' World Tour to pick up and play?

While reading isn't really required to play the music sections, it is handy to be able to read when it comes to clearing the puzzle objectives - they're not read out in any way, and while it's possible to fumble your way through, replaying levels until you chance your way through all the objectives, it's not really ideal. Another issue is that, somewhat illogically, the list of objectives often refer to the special blocks as A, B or C, rather than the heart, music note or star they actually are, making it a bit of a guess which one you need to complete a stage. By contrast the music sections are a lot more forgiving, as it's totally impossible to fail out of them - miss every single note and you'll still be able to unlock the next level and will still get a single medal as a reward too.

Mature Content

As expected from Hello Kitty, Hello Kitty & Friends: Rockin' World Tour is a sugary sweet concoction with nothing untoward whatsoever - no violence, gore, swearing or sex. The songs you play don't even have lyrics, being purely instrumental affairs, so there's no questionable lyrics to be worried about either.
