We Sing 80s release date and first songs revealed

To the beat of the rhythm of the night, sing until the morning light

We Sing 80s release date and first songs revealed
1st September, 2012 By Sarah Morris

The 80s. The decade of shoulder pads, big hair and leg warmers. While those who lived through it try to blank out their fashion disasters, plenty still get overly nostalgic over the music that hailed from those years. With entire radio stations, clubs, and TV shows dedicated to nothing but 80s tunes, it was only a matter of time before we saw a karaoke game dedicated to the years of the leg warmers - and who better to take up the challenge than We Sing?

Those of you who've played one of the We Sing games before will know exactly what to expect in this 80s reincarnation of the franchise - once you've made the tough decision of which of the thirty songs to play, it's a simple matter of you and up to three friends grabbing a microphone each and following the lyrics and pitch bars on screen, singing your heart out to score as many points as you can. We Sing also likes to mix it up a bit in multiplayer, with a whole host of different modes to try, whether it asks you to pass the mic every few phrases, or sing without lyrics at random intervals to make things that little bit harder.

So far only nine songs have been revealed, with a veritable smorgasbord of 80s kitsch on offer - although you can colour us disappointed at the lack of Rick Astley, even if he wasn't a likely candidate for inclusion, seeing as 'Never Gonna Give You Up' has already been on a We Sing game. But one thing's for sure - given the folks behind We Sing's tendency to make games loaded with more cheese than a French delicatessen, we're expecting greatness. In the meantime, we're holding out for some Madonna, Duran Duran and Wham. Here's the full list so far:

  • DeBarge - Rhythm of the Night
  • Kylie Minogue - I Should Be So Lucky
  • Lionel Richie - All Night Long (All Night)
  • Musical Youth - Pass The Dutchie
  • Roxette - The Look
  • Smokey Robinson - Being With You
  • Spandau Ballet - True
  • Yaz and the Plastic Population - The Only Way Is Up
  • Tears for Fears - Shout

More songs are being revealed on the game's official Facebook page every week, along with more competitions and giveaways than you can shake a microphone at. Through their funky Jukebox app, you can listen to each of the songs as they're announced (and get a bit of sneaky practice in too) and join in the guessing game, working out which songs are coming next from a set of jumbled up lyrics.

We Sing 80s waltzes onto the Wii later this month, on the 28th of September. Check back soon for our full review.
