Next month, we'll be digging out our leg warmers and holding our boomboxes high ready for the release of We Sing 80s, as we step into a virtual time machine and grab a microphone to blast out a choice range of 80s tunes on the Wii.
But what if we'd somehow managed to find a real time machine, and taken We Sing 80s with us? What if we actually were in the 80s, so the game wasn't a compilation of the best tunes from years gone by, but a brand new release packed with the songs that topping the charts on that very day?
Of course, there were no Wiis in the 80s - in fact, it was the decade of Nintendo's first home console, the NES. With games coming on huge grey cartridges, all with top notch 8-bit graphics and mono sound, the NES bought players many of their best-loved game franchises which are still going today - games such as Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda and Metroid getting their start on the console. So, to celebrate the launch of We Sing 80s, the folks behind the karaoke series have decided to embrace the technology of the time, and created a proper, NES reincarnation of the game. With hits from Queen, Lionel Richie and the Human League faithfully reproduced in a series of blips and bloops, you can see how 80s enthusiast Jennifer Regan gets to grips with the NES version below:
For all the gullible blondes out there (after all, this article is written by one), sadly, We Sing 80s won't actually releasing on the NES at all - incredible though the idea may be - but it is coming out on the Wii instead. Letting up to four players sing together, either co-operatively or competitively, the We Sing games have tended to have the party market cornered at Outcyders HQ - with their always stellar song choices, you can rest assured that there'll be a song to get even the most grumpy friends involved, up, and singing, ready to embarrass themselves.
We Sing 80s hits stores on the 5th of October on the Nintendo Wii - for the final verdict, make sure you check back soon for our full review.
