Hot on the heels of the announcement of Nintendo's brand new home console, the Wii U (and if you haven't heard of that yet, we'd recommend you check out that article first), comes an announcement by Ubisoft of one of the first official games in development for the console. Joining the recently announced Pikmin 3 from Nintendo, comes the strangely titled Killer Freaks from Outer Space, which must surely have taken inspiration from many a B-Movie in its time.
Shown in video form in a developer roundtable session at the gaming expo, E3, Killer Freaks from Outer Space is a first person shooter with a heavy helping of tongue in cheek comedy and enough cheese to take over France. Set in a London under attack by aliens, who look strangely like Raving Rabbids in zombie form, you take on the role of a foul mouthed cockney, who appears to be staging a one man rebellion.
Far more interesting than the idea of the story, however, is the concept for the use of the controller. Rather than using two analogue sticks, one to move, and one to aim like on a standard controller, you'll instead move with the controller's analogue stick, and aim by looking at the controller's touch screen, and physically moving it around, as the controller uses its gyroscopes to track your target.
Even more interesting is the idea for a multiplayer mode, which sees one player using a standard Wii Classic Controller Pro to control his character, while a second player uses the Wii U pad to control the hordes of aliens he'll be facing. With one person playing a first person shooter, while the other arranges their aliens in defence, kind of like Plants vs Zombies, it certainly sounds like an interesting idea.
With a release set for the launch of the console, Killer Freaks from Outer Space is also the very first official launch game. We expect to see much more of this over the coming months. In the mean time, you can find the official trailer below, although you'll have to log into your YouTube account to view it. Be warned though, it does contain strong violence and swearing from the start.
