We all love a chance to win prizes. And we all love a chance to prove that our knowledge of certain subjects. So anyone who holds unconditional love for the pocket puzzle series Professor Layton has good reason to be giddy, as Level-5 and Nintendo have unveiled a Layton themed competition, with some cracking prizes on offer.

Designed to get potential puzzle-solvers ready for the release of the series' first 3DS title, Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask on the 26th of October, fans will undergo five tests designed to challenge their knowledge of Layton lore. Click here to enrol at Gressenheller University, where Professor Layton himself is said to lecture, and prove that you're the most worthy Layton sidekick with your wide berth of facts and trivia to be in with a challenge of winning a Professor Layton prize pack. It's worth keeping in mind, though, that the winners are selected from a random draw, so passing the test itself doesn't guarantee you'll win a prize pack - but there's no harm in trying. As the Professor himself says, critical thinking is the key to success.

Each Layton prize pack includes an adorable plush of Professor Layton, a copy of Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask, a 3DS XL and finally a copy of Professor Layton & The Eternal Diva, the animated film released in 2010. Eagle eyed fans will also want to keep an watchful eye out for small digital rewards along your puzzling journey, as if you successfully complete each test, you'll unlock a new download (we'd imagine it'll be wallpapers, and the like), which will at least mean your time hasn't been for nothing.

While investigating the town, talking with citizens and interacting with the backgrounds, you'll come across a wide variety of puzzles that need to be completed in order to progress through the game, from basic logic puzzles, to stinkers that'll have you up all night.

And even when you've finished the main game, the adventure isn't over, as Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask can link up to the Nintendo WiFi Connection in order to download extra puzzles, with a new one being added every day for a whole year! With 150 puzzles included in the main game along and 365 provided via Nintendo WiFi Connection, you certainly won't lack puzzles to solve.
