Being the huge Professor Layton fans that we are, whenever the game's developer speaks out, we sit up and listen - and this time, we're glad that we did. In this month's Famitsu - the Japanese gaming magazine that's something like a gaming bible over there, Professor Layton developers Level-5 have announced the first details of their latest game.
Unfortunately for us, however, they haven't really announced anything at all. There's no platform, no genre, no screenshots, and very few specifics. What we do have, however, is already intriguing enough.
Called "Time Travellers", the game, which will not be a part of the Professor Layton series, is the beginning of what Level-5 are hoping will become a major new franchise, which, unsurprisingly, features a time travel mechanic. But while that's interesting enough on its own, we can't help but wonder what Level-5's CEO was talking about, when he mentioned that the game will be "Centered on hardware that's not yet in this world, it will expand to other hardware."
Is he referring to the oft rumoured Wii HD? Or the confirmed Nintendo 3DS?
Whatever platform it comes out on, we know for definite it's not going to be released in the foreseeable future - having been in development for less than a year so far, we've probably got at least a few months to wait before we get anything concrete, yet alone a UK release. With four Professor Layton games already out in Japan, we're still waiting for even an announcement of the third - so expect a similar delay.
Sometimes, we don't like living in this country.
