Playing as Samus Aran, one of the first female video game heroines in history, the Metroid series has been a hugely popular success. Metroid: Other M is the latest instalment in the best-selling series, but this time, there's much more of a focus on the leading lady. Retaining the series noted themes of intergalactic exploration and isolation in deep, dingy caves, Metroid: Other M is also set to finally reveal a bit more about the illusive Samus, describing her failings, feelings and flaws, as well as the reason she became a bounty hunter in the first place.
For the first time in a Metroid game, players will be able to switch between first and third person viewpoints on the hop by simply rotating the Wii remote - holding it horizontally gives a third person perspective, while pointing it at the screen will give you a Samus-eye view of the world.
These new perspectives add new possibilities to the combat and exploration in the game - during combat, switching from third person to first person allows you to be more accurate by targetting a particular enemy; remaining in third person for combat sections allows you to use Samus's beam attack, taking out hoards of enemies at a time, while the first person view will also allow you to search the room for hidden objects and get vital information on items of interest.

Samus can now execute precision attacks when in first person view.
Samus also has a bunch of new moves for this game - specifically melee attacks - which let you jump on enemies to use an Overblast attack, finish off enemies with a Lethal Strike counter attack, dodge enemy attacks with the new Sense Move, and restore your health with Concentration. Samus also comes equipped with a new weapon - the Diffusion Beam - which scatters charge beams on impact, taking out even more enemies.

Take that, you giant purple iguana thing!
And with a release date now being confirmed for the 3rd of September - just a few days after the US release, it's time to get your Power Suit on, charge up your beam and get ready for Metroid: Other M.
