Goldeneye 007 has had a storied history in the gaming world so far. The title originally started life on the humble Nintendo 64, where it became recognised as one of the greatest games of all time thanks to its tight first person shooter action and superb plot the likes of which has never really been seen in an FPS. It went down in the history books as possibly the greatest licensed title to ever hit consoles and is still remembered by many an older gamer.
Since its release though, not a single Bond game had come close to its quality. Electronic Arts took over the Bond licence from Rare and never managed to recapture the magic. Even their own version of Goldeneye was a flop, being not a patch on the original. It seemed as if the game was to remain a sweet memory for those lucky enough to have experienced it.
That is until 2010 however, when Activision announced that they would be giving the original Goldeneye 007 the full remake treatment. The title, which found a home on the Wii, was an excellent blast from the past for gamers of a certain vintage. It mixed the qualities that made the original game so great with more modern FPS sensibilities and a great multiplayer mode to create a game that was worth a play by anybody.
It looked like the game would remain a Wii exclusive at first, which was fitting seeing as it was a Nintendo console that had played host to the original, however it has recently been revealed that this will not be the case.
Activision have announced that they will bring the remake to the 360 and PS3, with Activision Executive Vice President David Oxford commenting "We are beyond ecstatic to debut GoldenEye 007: Reloaded to the millions of fans who have been clamouring for it to arrive on Sony and Microsoft home consoles."
The game will feature a fully redone graphics engine, bringing the title into full HD, and will also allow for 16 players online in addition to a local 4 player split screen multiplayer experience.
There is no official release date of of yet, however Amazon France have the game pegged for October 28th.
