With four Disney Sing It games already out the door, we'd always found it slightly surprising that not one of the previous instalments had even touched Disney's huge back catalogue of family friendly films. A seemingly obvious combination, with the majority of Disney's back catalogue featuring themes so recognisable, that your average Joe on the street probably knows half the lyrics, the series aversion to the classic films has always struck us as somewhat odd. Until today
Thankfully abandoning the Hannah Montanas, Jonas Brothers, Camp Rocks, and High School Musicals of the previous games, Disney Sing It: Family Hits give families what they've been asking for from a Disney karaoke game for a long - the ability to sing along with tracks from the classic Disney films.
With tracks from twenty "all time favourite" Disney films on offer here, from The Lion King, The Jungle Book, Mary Poppins, and Cinderella, all the way up to more recent films, like Toy Story, and Cars, there's bound to be something for everyone here - no matter when they started watching the films.
As the "Family Hits" name suggests, Disney Sing It has been designed from the ground up to be played in a group. Along with the standard single-player Karaoke mode, Family Hits will also let you team up with a friend for a duet, compete in a head-to-head mode, or pass the microphone around up to 8 players, as you take it in turns to sing sections of the song with the rest of your family.
And if the potential embarrassment quotient wasn't already high enough, the game even records your performances as you sing, letting you crank up the volume, replay, and even apply various effects to those awful karaoke performances - much to your family's delight.
Heading for a Wii release this summer, Disney Sing It: Family Hits looks to be everything we could have hoped for from a Disney karaoke game. Maybe it's finally time to throw away those old Sing-along tapes...
