Everyone's heard of Call of Duty, if only for the high profile media outrage every time a new one's released. But, disappointingly, no-one ever hears about the extortionate prices they charge for their downloadable map packs. But if your back was put up at the thought of paying £10 for just three new maps, and two recycled ones, that you could already play if you just put the older game in your drive, for this week only, Microsoft are offering both of the map packs for half price - which I guess, if you buy both, is similar to buying one, and getting one free.
Both the Resurgence Pack and the Stimulus Package were 1200 Microsoft Points (about £10.00), and have now been reduced to a much more reasonable - and arguably what they should have cost in the first place - 600 Microsoft Points (about £5.00). Both packs feature three brand new maps, and two remade "legendary" maps from the previous Modern Warfare game, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
Both of these map packs can be played both online and offline in split-screen, but to play online, you will need an Xbox Live Gold subscription (priced at around about £39.99).
Resurgence Pack
This pack contains five multiplayer maps, including three brand new ones:
- 'Carnival', an abandoned amusement park
- 'Fuel', a massive oil refinery
- 'Trailer Park', a maze like mobile estate, surrounded by war torn debris
Along with the new maps, you also get two "legendary" maps from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, which have been redone for this game:
- 'Strike', a large urban centre in the middle of a desert
- 'Vacant', a fast-paced Russian office complex, with very few places to take cover
Stimulus Package
This pack features same mix of old and new, with three brand new multiplayer maps, set in a wide variety of locations:
- 'Bailout', which is set in a multi-floored apartment complex
- 'Storm', an open industrial park, littered with heavy machinery
- 'Salvage', a snowy junkyard fortified by stacked debris and crushed cars
And, like before, two maps from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, which have been remade for this game:
- 'Crash', a war-torn urban environment
- 'Overgrown', set in a massive dried up river bed.
