Along with the limited edition consoles and Hardened Edition that were announced over the weekend at Activision's Call of Duty: XP event, further details have been revealed about Call of Duty: Elite, Activision subscription service for the Call of Duty series. While non-paying members will have access to a range of features, such as the ability to track your statistics at the Elite website, on a console, and on your phone, paying members will have a whole host of features waiting for them.

A lot of Call of Duty: Elite's free - but it's the premium features that are the most interesting.

At £34.99 a year, a subscription to Call of Duty: Elite isn't cheap, but it certainly has its own rewards. The biggest, most arguably, is that your subscription will give you access to all downloadable content packs for free. There will be 20 being released over the course of a year, and will include a range of add-ons and extras, from the usual map packs, to new co-op missions for the Spec Ops mode, and even entirely new modes. What's more, some of these downloads will be exclusive to premium subscribers - so those who can't get enough Call of Duty will be wanting to subscribe.

Other benefits include access to both daily, and weekly competitions, with both virtual, and real prizes up for grabs, with a Jeep, iPads, and a rucksack being amongst the items mentioned. You'll also get access to high quality videos, produced by Activision showing the best strategies for various maps, and other videos that look at the real life side of Call of Duty, pitting "real life rivals" against each other - such as Cops vs Firemen.

Obviously, though, the real draw of Call of Duty: Elite is the regular, never more than monthly flow of downloadable goodies that'll be making their way to your console and/or PC should you take out a subscription. We'll have a closer look, and a full FAQ for Call of Duty: Elite soon, as we know there's a lot of confusion around the subject - hopefully we can clear it up a little bit!
