The Phantom of the Opera is there inside your mind

Andrew Lloyd Webber Musicals Sing & Dance hits the Wii this Autumn
31st July, 2012 By Sarah Morris

Much like Marmite, you either love musicals or you loathe them. Whether it's Gilbert and Sullivan, Rodgers and Hammerstein or Andrew Lloyd Webber, some people go potty for musical theatre, while others sit confused amongst the aisles, wondering what's going on with all the singing and dancing.

Despite looking like the love child of Gordon from Thomas the Tank Engine and a puffer fish, Andrew Lloyd Webber is arguably the name in musicals, having a metric tonne of immensely popular shows to his name. Whether it's his musical adaptation of the 1909 novel The Phantom of the Opera, the feline-inspired 'Cats', or the all singing, all dancing Bible story of 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat' you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who didn't recognise at least some of his songs.

In the absence of any screenshots from the game, here's a badly photoshopped picture of himself holding a Wii Remote.

And almost everyone has probably fancied themselves as the starring role in one of his musicals at some point, singing into a loofah in the shower perhaps, or strutting their stuff while doing the dusting. Seemingly, the folks from the immensely named Tubby Games have been spying on us, as they're set to release a new game based around Webber's discography, bring the best of Just Dance and We Sing together into one, hit Webber-themed love in. Featuring songs such as 'Don't Cry For Me Argentina', 'The Phantom Of The Opera', 'Memory' and 'Any Dream Will Do', you'll be able to dance along to any song, or blast them out to your heart's content, either alone, or with up to three friends. In total, there'll be some 32 songs taken from 13 of his best-loved musicals including Evita, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Phantom Of The Opera, Cats, Starlight Express and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, as performed by the likes of Boyzone, Donny Osmond and his ex-wife Sarah Brightman too.

Along with taking on each of the songs as and when you see fit, you'll also be able to play through a Career mode, where you take centre stage, singing and dancing your way to super stardom. We don't know about you, but it certainly sounds good to us.

Andrew Lloyd Webber Musicals: Sing & Dance hits stores in a month and a half, on the 14th of September, exclusively for the Wii. If you're a fan of Just Dance-type games (specifically Dance On Broadway) or karaoke games, and have more than a fleeting interest in musicals, then you may want check back in the coming weeks, when we'll hopefully have a full list of songs to share with you. In the mean time, we're off to brush up on the Webber back catalogue in preparation!
