Worms Revolution is a tongue in cheek turn based strategy game, that pits two teams of four Worms against each other in a brawl to a finish. With a wide variety of mad cap weapon on offer, ranging from an exploding old lady (who vanishes upon explosion, leaving behind an odd, green mist), to an exploding, flying sheep, complete with a cape (you can probably see a pattern here), it's safe to say Worms is a game that doesn't take itself too seriously. Each game takes place on a randomly generated level, with plenty of obstacles scattered around to give you reason to experiment with different types of weapons, both ranged, and melee. With each worm having 100 health, the two teams take it in turns to chuck various weapons at each other in the hopes of knocking off some health, with the last team with a worm still standing being declared the winner.
While the game does have a single player mode, the computer opponents you'll be facing are incredibly good, and can hit you with pretty much any ranged weapon from anywhere on the level. Their inhuman accuracy is likely to frustrate many children, making this a game that's best suited to multiplayer.
And it's with a group of four friends - or even the entire family - playing together that Worms really comes into its own. Letting four people play on the same console, either as every man for themselves, or split into two team of two, the sheer insanity of Worms, the daftness of the weapons available, and the funny little one line quips the worms make when they start each round never fail to raise a smile, and whilst it may not be as laugh out loud funny as previous games, there's still plenty of giggles to be found here.
While it may not be the most non-violent of games, Worms Revolution isn't all that bad. While you do have access to a variety of realistic type weapons (bazookas, grenades, shotguns), none of these weapons have realistic effects. Your worms don't bleed, instead simply becoming more and more bandaged as the game goes on, with the occasional black eye. And while there may be plenty of explosions, including an exploding sheep, and an exploding granny, they don't actually seem to "explode" as such - instead, they simply disappear and get replaced by an explosion. There's no bits of sheep and granny flying across the level, anyway.
