Set in WW1, Toy Soldiers is a game that'll almost definitely encourage some sort of historical interest in your child. With levels taking place at famous battles, that actually took place during WW1, the game may not be as informative or educational as it could be, but it may well get your child asking questions about the Great War. Especially if they spot some of the historical inaccuracies - like the fact that helicopters weren't around in WW1 - no matter what Toy Soldiers may think.
There's nothing phenomenally untoward about Toy Soldiers, but there are a few things that a parent may want to be cautious about. Although there's no blood, or gore, as the soldiers when shot simply collapse into tiny pieces of plastic, like on the Lego games, it is still a game about shooting people (and in some cases, horses), and it's all presented in a slightly more realistic fashion than the LEGO games.
There are also a few chemical weapons involved, which see you gassing, or flame-throwing other troops, although again, there's nothing all that graphic here - just either troops coughing a bit, while their health bar slowly diminishes, or carrying on as normal, whilst on fire. As you do.
While a parent could offer strategic advice, there's sadly no co-op mode, and no way for a parent to help their child in a more interactive way. While you could certainly field questions about the war, and use this as a tool to get your child interested in what's already an interesting part of our history, there's sadly not much you can do in this game together - unless you want to play against each other - which is a shame.
