Strike Suit Zero: Director's Cut is a downloadable space sim for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Strapping you into the cockpit of a futuristic space ship that can not only dogfight with the best of them, but can also transform into a giant, anime style mech when you need extra firepower, you'll take to the skies (or rather, space), in a number of sci-fi missions with a loose story tying them together.
The missions themselves are a mixture of combat and defence, which see you dogfighting with nimble fighters, going up against gigantic capital ships, and defending friendly ships that find themselves under attack. In fact, with a large focus on escort missions, you'll likely find yourself doing as much of the latter as the former, as you're given an objective to "protect" something or other from attack, and thanks to the rest of your somewhat useless squadron, its survival rests entirely on your shoulders.
In terms of accessibility for younger players, there are a few things that they may struggle with here. Unfortunately, the tutorial for getting into the game isn't all that great, even if the controls are quite easy to pick up - but perhaps a bigger issue is that there's always a lot going on on screen, to the point where it can be quite hard to follow all the action. With tiny fonts being used throughout, it's not all that easy to tell when a missile is headed your way, which younger players may find frustrating. The protection missions, too, can be very tricky, even for players who have no trouble keeping an eye on the action, with ships only able to take a fairly small number of hits before being completely destroyed, leaving you little room for error. One best suited for older players, perhaps.
With few cutscenes, and nothing in the way of bad language, Strike Suit Zero has little for parents to be concerned about. The only violence in the game is that of blowing up other space ships, although you never see the pilots, or hear their voices.
