Parent's Guide

In Rayman 3D, players take on the role of Rayman, the limbless titular hero as he tries to defend his land (known as the Glade of Dreams) from Razorbeard and his army of Robo-Pirates, who've invaded, and destroyed the Heart of the World.

Rayman 3D is a port of Rayman 2, which can be found on several other consoles, so it's worth double checking that your child hasn't played this already. If they haven't, then what they'll find here is a pretty good platform game, with plenty of collectibles to be found, varied levels, and a much, much smoother difficulty level. With its frequent checkpoints, and inability to get a game over, it's much less annoying that the original game, but there's still a chance that a child might get fed up of having to attempt a section repeatedly to get past it, and we can imagine a fair few children demanding that their parents beat the final boss for them after they've lost to it a few times. As far as reading goes, there's a couple of word-y cutscenes, and the opening level is full of explanation on how to play from Murphy the flying mouth, so younger players will either need reading skills, or a demonstration from a parent before they can be unleashed on it properly.

Mature Content

With nothing in the way of sex, violence or swearing, there's little for parents to worry about in Rayman 3DS. While the game does see Rayman throwing his fists at various enemies, there's nothing in the way of realistic impacts or damage done, as most of your foes are robots, who simply disappear in a puff of smoke when they're defeated.

Family Multiplayer

Unfortunately, there's no multiplayer to speak of here (we'd have loved something like the minigames from the Dreamcast version playable with download play, like some of the Mario games on the DS have done) so the only family play possible is a parent explaining what to do/helping a child when they get stuck.
