Pocket Pack: Words and Numbers is a great value collection of mini games with an English or maths theme. With a choice of Sudoku, Anagrams, Kokoru, Word Cubes, and Word Guess on offer, there's plenty of variety here - and hours of fun to be had.
While Sudoku is pretty self explanatory, the others aren't quite so obvious. Kokoru is basically a hardcore version of Sudoku, only with more diagonal lines, Anagram asks you make as many words as you can from a random collection of eight, ten or twelve letters, while Word Guess is basically Hangman with a different name. Word Cubes is Pocket Pack's very own version of Boggle, and can be a real time sink against the right people. Although there's not really all that much to do in single player, the game does come with support for DS Download Play, which lets you beam a temporary copy of the game to your friend, letting them play along with you in multiplayer.
It likely goes without saying that a reading ability is a requirement, as are basic maths skills, but Pocket Pack: Words and Numbers is a great way to keep your child's spelling (and pattern solving, in the case of Sudoku) sharp. If you have a young Sudoku fiend, a budding Boggle master, or simply fancy testing your child's brain on a particularly long train journey, Pocket Pack: Words and Numbers is the perfect accompaniment.
As a collection of games themed around words and numbers, there's nothing for parents to be concerned about with Pocket Pack: Words and Numbers. The only thing that may be an issue is the ability to spell rude words - but then they'd need to already know the rude words first.
