What is NES Remix 2?
NES Remix 2 is a fast paced, retro themed mini-game collection for the Wii U. Featuring 169 challenges set within 12 games from Nintendo's first home console, the NES, this is a collection that pits players against bite-sized challenges from a whole host of the console's most popular games, from Super Mario Bros 3 to Kirby's Adventure and Zelda II: The Adventures of Link.
How do you play NES Remix 2?
Each challenge is made up of between one and four tasks, each of which asks you to do something either particularly tricky, or unusual in one of the classic games. Whether it's giving you a few seconds to defeat 10 enemies as invincible Mario, asking you to set off a chain reaction in match-three/Tetris mix Dr. Mario, or rolling to the end of a level in the shortest amount of time possible in Kirby's Adventure, the challenges are nothing if not fast paced and frenetic.
How easy is NES Remix 2 to pick up and play?
With a wide range of difficulties, this isn't a game anyone can expect to simply blaze through and ace in a day. With some really tough challenges here, there are some stages that will take dozens of attempts, but mostly in a good, "just one more try" way.
However, it's safe to say that anyone who hasn't played the original games will be at a bit of a disadvantage here. There's little in the way of tutorials on most games to tell you which button does what, and having to figure it out when under intense pressure does make the learning curve that little bit steeper. That said, as these are all pretty simple games, once you've figured things out, you'll be good to go. With an emphasis on fast reactions, and a need for a lot of practice and persistence, this is one for those looking for a challenge.
As a collection of mini-games themed around 12 old NES games, there's little for parents to be concerned about in NES Remix 2. There's no swearing, no sex, and very little in the way of violence. The 2D boxing game Punch Out!! is as close to violent as the game comes, and even then, there's nothing in the way of blood.
