Parent's Guide

Magicka 2 is a co-op, hack and slash style adventure that sees up to four friends adventuring together, either locally or online, through a madcap fantasy world. Packed with terrible puns, one liners, and insider references that are sure to raise a smile, Magicka 2 is a genuinely funny game - and also a genuinely tricky one.

The main draw of Magicka 2 is its innovative magic system. Each of the four face buttons (circle/square/cross/triangle on PS4) represents one of four elements (pressing L1 brings up another set for you to choose from), and you're free to mix up to five as you see fit. So, pressing the fire button five times will let you cast a strong fire spell - but mixing three fires and two lightnings lets you throw bolts of thunder that'll burn. The possibilities are endless (cold and water makes ice, for example), but there's a catch - friendly fire is always on in Magicka 2, so you'll likely often end up on the end of your friend's spells. Designed to be played in multiplayer, this is a lot of fun with four friends crammed on a sofa - although it's also very hard!

In terms of accessibility, Magicka 2 is pretty easy to pick up and play, but it still may be tricky for newer players to cope. With plenty of enemies attacking you, and very little time to think, you'll need to be fast on your feet to cope - and seeing as the control scheme's been designed to cause as much chaos as possible, it can all get a little bit overwhelming for less experienced players. Thankfully, there are plenty of checkpoints throughout the level - but you do find yourself losing a little bit too much ground every time you die. With nothing in the way of voice overs (at least, in a language you can understand), a solid reading ability is a requirement, too.

Mature Content

While it's free of any sex or bad language, Magicka 2 is gratuitously gory. Enemies (and bystanders alike) explode in clouds of blood and gore, with blood splattering the ground over a great distance.
