Legend of Legacy is a Japanese-style role playing game for the 3DS. Set in the land of Avalon - an isle that sprung from the sea one day - you take on the role of one of six characters, and set out on a quest for [something]. Each character has something different they're looking for, but the game actually has very little in the way of story, with the emphasis here being on exploring.
The main objective in Legend of Legacy is to explore the game's fantasy world. Divided up into lands, each of which is sub-divided into smaller areas, in each land you'll start out with a blank map on the bottom screen, and a marker showing where you are. As you explore, the map on the bottom screen will be revealed, and essentially the entire objective of the game is to simply complete this process for all the game's lands. Along the way, you'll face off against enemies and bosses in turn based battles, where you'll have to choose a formation for your party, before choosing which weapon, and which attack you want them each to use. Health is replenished after each battle, but this is more an indication of the difficulty of said battles than anything else, as it doesn't take too many hits to leave your characters defeated. Luckily, you can use the quick save option in the menu to save wherever you are, and carry on playing - unlike many quick saves in handheld role playing games, that simply boot you back to the title screen after saving.
With very, very little in the way of a story, next to nothing in the way of tutorials, and a punishing battle system, Legend of Legacy is a game that's aimed firmly at experienced role playing game players, and truly hardcore players who appreciate a solid challenge from their game. As some bosses that stalk the land can kill you in the space of a single turn, you actually initially have to simply avoid them, rather than get into conflict - which can be easier said than done. When combined with the lack of information about where to go, or what to do next, and a map system that doesn't help as much as it could, Legend of Legacy is a game aimed at the most hardcore of hardcore role playing game fans.
With very little in the way of physical violence or sex, there isn't too much for parents to be concerned about in Legend of Legacy. The battles in game don't show physical contact, as your characters instead leap forward, hack or slash at air with their sword, and the enemy recoils, falling down when defeated, before disappearing. There's no blood, guts or gore, and no sexual content. What there is, is the ocassional use of bad language, with the ocassional use of the word "b*stard".
