Parent's Guide

Designed with children aged between 3 and 6 in mind, Just Dance Kids 2014 takes the accessible dancing fun of the Just Dance games and scales it down to be more in tune with the more limited motor skills of younger children. The soundtrack takes in all the pillars of kid-friendly pop, from the auto-tuned Nickolodean/Disney camp of Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez and Victorious, to a few oldies like 'Walking On Sunshine' and 'Hit Me With Your Best Shot', and even a couple of nursery rhymes thrown in for good measure, with something that every child should know. While it may only have 31 songs to Just Dance 2014's 46, as children seem to have an intrinsic ability to listen to the same song on repeat, ad nauseam, they likely won't view it as an issue - especially with "I like to Move It", as made famous by Madagascar, making an appearance.

Like the other games in the Just Dance Family, Just Dance Kids 2014 is a cinch to pick up and play - all you do is hold a Wii Remote/Move controller in your right hand (or stand in front of the Kinect sensor if you're playing on the Xbox), choose a song to play and copy the moves of the on screen characters to score points. With simpler routines aimed at younger kids, up to four players can get in on the fun, with a selection of multiplayer modes for everyone to get stuck into - from the standard versus and team battle modes, to the Simon Says-esque Freeze & Shake where you need to either stand stock still or shake your controller like your life depends on it for bonus points. Wii U players also have the option of a 'Dance Director' mode, where the player with the GamePad can choose a theme for the interpretive dance sessions that punctuate the songs, perhaps asking everyone to dance like wizards, sharks or conductors. Whichever mode you choose though, the basic premise is the same - just dance as well as you can.

Aimed squarely at little ones, the choreographies here have been stripped down so even the youngest of the young should be able to handle them, and are a lot easier to follow than on the 'big sister' titles. The only issue younger children may have is that it's not quite as obvious which hand you're supposed to be following. As Just Dance games only track your hand movement when it comes to scoring points (after all, it can't track your legs), one of the character's hands is usually coloured in to show you which hand you're supposed to be copying - yet in Just Dance Kids, the hand you're meant to watch is indicated by a sparkly trail, which younger children may find a bit harder to follow.

Other than that, though, with simpler choreographies, and kid-friendly song choices, younger children should have no problem getting their groove on to Just Dance Kids 2014.

Mature Content

Being specifically designed with the youngest kids in mind, Just Dance Kids 2014 is as squeaky clean as it gets. Songs are a mix of Disney Channel/Nickelodeon tunes, oldies like 'Walking On Sunshine' and 'Hit Me With Your Best Shot' with a handful of nursery rhymes thrown in for good measure - kiddie fare if ever there was some. As such, there's no bad language, sex references or anything violent, making a great game for little ones.
