Guacamelee is a platforming game for the Playstation 3 and Playstation Vita. Set in a stylised Mexico, Guacamelee sees you lacing up the boots of Juan, a wannabe wrestler turned hero as he sets off on a quest to save El Presidente's daughter.
Although it's a platform game, the platforming here is of a very different variety to that found in games like New Super Mario Bros. More complex, and with more freedom, Guacamelee isn't about simply getting from one end of a level to the other, so much as exploring a vast, maze-like collection of caves and rooms, as you try to figure out how to get to where you're going. While things are initially fairly straight forward, the difficulty gets ramped up quickly, with exploration turning from being a simple case of jumping onto a platform, to requiring you to string together a combo of moves with split-second timing, without accidentally tangling your fingers like a pretzel. Younger children who can just about cope with New Super Mario Bros will likely be out of their depth here - this is a platform game for those who like their platforming hard.
Although a large part of the game takes place in the land of the dead, there's little for parents to be concerned about here. There's nothing in the way of blood, guts, or gore, and no swearing, with only thing that may be of relevance being the fact that your enemies (including the main baddie) are skeletons.
