Doodle Jump Adventures is an enhanced version of the popular mobile game, Doodle Jump, where you bounce a little multi-legged creature up through a course littered with obstacles and enemies, tilting your console to steer him left and right. On it's transition to the 3DS, the game has gained around 40 levels to go alongside the endless how-high-can-you-go mode from the famous phone game.
Each level takes only a few minutes to complete, making it perfect for a handheld game, but they'll each require a steady hand to beat, as you nudge your little Dood left and right, landing on each subsequent bouncy platform as leap your way to the top. Of course, it's a long way to the top of the stage, and everything from moving platforms to aggressive baddies will be doing their best to make things harder for you. While you can fire back using X, Y and A, a single hit, or even a single missed platform is all it takes to send your Dood spiralling to an untimely end, and set you back to the last checkpoint. Doodle Jump Adventures starts off pretty easily, but some of the later levels can be rather tricky, particularly when you need to leap onto moving objects such as cannonballs or aliens to reach a higher up platform.
Besides the brief explanations as to what new power-ups and objects can be used for (eg. "pick up this" and "press B to use that"), the game is very light on text, meaning its perfectly possible to play without having much reading ability. What younger children may struggle slightly more with is the controls, which require a substantial amount of precision, and some pretty fast reactions. As platforms get deleted as soon as they disappear of the screen, a single misjudged jump is all it takes to send you spiralling back to the last checkpoint, which younger children, with less developed motor skills may find frustrating.
Very much a 'suitable for everyone' game, Doodle Jump Adventures has no guts, gore or bad language to worry about. There is a vague amount of violence in that your little alien guy can shoot the brightly-coloured aliens that crop up in the levels, as well as bouncing on their heads - but each causes them simply to disappear in a puff of smoke.
