One of the more interesting ideas, and another that Microsoft barely touched on during the reveal of their latest console, the Xbox One, was something Microsoft have dubbed "Game DVR". Essentially making your console work like a video recorder of your finest moments, you'll be able to record, edit, and upload video clips of your gaming highlights at the touch of a button. And how cool does that sound?
While all we really have to go on is a paragraph so far, it seems the Game DVR system will be constantly running in the background, recording your gameplay as you go, much like on the PS4, which announced a similar system back in February. Should something amazing happen that you really want to see again, or share with your friends, you'll be able to press a button, and backtrack through the last several minutes of footage, trimming it down to get to the juicy bits, and adding effects, before sharing it with your friends at the touch of a button.
Again, much like the PS4, it's promised that the Xbox One will allow you to upload any footage you take to social networks (while none have yet been announced, you'd expect YouTube will be an option), or simply share it across your friends list via Xbox Live. One of the fancier features of Game DVR is that it'll apparently also automatically capture what it deems as significant parts of gameplay - whether it's scoring a goal, unlocking an achievement, or defeating a boss, saving you the trouble of having to go back and save it manually, and providing a permanent record of your achievements.
While details are somewhat thin on the ground - as is the case with most of the Xbox One's features - the Game DVR system certainly sounds like a cool idea, and one that we can imagine will get a lot of use. Replay modes have always been great fun in games - from Driv3r on the Xbox, to WWE games on the more recent consoles, so having one built into the both the PS4 and the Xbox One has us very excited indeed.
