Whenever a new console launches, there are a few major landmarks, or stepping stones - almost a new console's rites of passage - that makes everyone who's looking forward to it very, very excited indeed. From the launch line-up, to the announcement of the announcement of the price, and videos showing you how to use the interface, these things tend to make people more irrationally excited than they really should - and today is no different, as images showing exactly what the boxes for Nintendo's upcoming console, the Wii U, are going to look like have sent shivers up the collective spine of Outcyders' staff.
Are you sitting down? Here we go:
With a funky blue strip across the top, and an oddly clashing yellow highlight in a sort of crescent moon shape, these are the boxes you'll be looking out for when Nintendo's latest home console, the Wii U launches later this year. Interestingly, it seems the plastic boxes themselves will be coloured in the same shade as the strip, making them a fetching light blue - a lot like the 360's "Xbox green" boxes are now. If nothing else, it'll make them all the easier to spot on the shop shelf - and wherever they end up at home.
OK, so we accept it's not really all that significant an update - and certainly a long way off a console box art, or an "unboxing" on the geek-o-meter, but it's still nice to know what these things are going to look like. Perhaps the most important thing to remember is that, like we said, having its official game boxart revealed places the Wii U one more step down the road towards launch day. With rumours gathering pace about its release date, price, and launch games, the road to the Wii U's launch is bound to be an exciting ride - so stay tuned to Everybody Plays for all the latest.
