Nintendo seem increasingly happy when Ubisoft get behind their platforms, and perhaps understandably so, seeing as this is the publisher that bought the world both the amazing Rabbids series, and Just Dance, two franchises which have both been incredible successes in their own rights (and we were certainly impressed by their most recent instalments, Just Dance 2 and Raving Rabbids: Travel in Time).
Now, however, it seems that Ubisoft are getting increasingly excited about the Wii 2, as their head honcho, Yves Guillemot mentioned during a recent investor briefing.
"First, the platform Nintendo is coming with is really a fantastic platform. We think it will be extremely successful and what we see is that we will be able to leverage a lot of the work that we do for Xbox 360 and PS3 when we will create games for the platform. We will not have to redo completely the games we create. We'll be able to use all the capacities the console is giving, but also use all the work that we do for the other platforms."
On the surface, it may appear like a bit of a throwaway comment, but it does at least confirm some details that we've heard. Firstly, it suggests that the console will be at least as powerful, and probably more powerful than the Xbox 360 and PS3. Secondly, it also confirms that the Wii 2 will be able to do something that the 360 and PS3 can't - which would suggest that the recent rumours that say the Wii 2 controller will contain a large touch screen may well be true. And, lastly, it confirms that we'll be getting a lot of ports of 360 and PS3 games on the Wii 2 - although hopefully not at the expense of the Rabbids and Just Dance games we've come to know and love.
Either way, the wait for solid Wii 2 details will be over soon, as Nintendo have set the date for their E3 conference as the 7th of June. The publisher's already confirmed that we'll be learning everything we need to know about the Wii 2 then. Make sure you keep checking back in the meantime.
