Ah, Japanese role-playing games. We suppose you could accuse them of being as formulaic as their burly action shooter brethren, as while they rarely involve fighting terrorists over oil, their cast of spiky haired teenage amnesiacs are nearly always saving the world from certain destruction. Sometimes though, they like to mix things up a bit. In the upcoming Time and Eternity, for example, which will now be hitting shelves in June, you have your own selfish reasons for existing. Instead of saving millions, you're on a quest to rescue just one - your husband-to-be, who was viciously murdered on your wedding day by a bunch of assassins.
Just as the flame-haired princess Toki and her fiancée were preparing to say their vows, a load of roughnecks who weren't even on the guest list barged in, making a bee-line for the groom. What they were after, you don't know, but things get even more confusing when you transform into your alter ego, blonde killing machine Towa, dispatching the party-poopers without breaking a sweat - but alas, she's a little too late, as her mortally-wounded spouse-to-be passes away. Determined to not let a load of ninjas get in-between her and a good wedding, Toki sets off with her pet dragon, Drake - in which the soul of her departed hubby rests - to patch things up, by travelling back in time. As you do.
Talk about having secrets in a relationship... Toki seemingly has a bad case of what is called 'dual souls', where two personalities share the same body, and together the pair can control the flow of time. During your adventures, you'll be drawn into plenty of battles (of the turn based variety) along the way, with each personality having their own unique weapons, skills and abilities to help you out. While they're both capable of playing with time, the red-headed Toki prefers to attack from a distance with her rifle, while the blonde Towa is an expert with knives and rather deadly in close combat situations - but you can't just switch between the pair willy-nilly. Different enemies in the world have different weaknesses that mean one or t'other female will be better suited, but you'll only get the chance to swap from Toki to Towa and vice-versa every time you get more powerful and gain a level.
Faffing with time can cause all kinds of rifts and distortions, which means that even if you manage to stop the initial assassins killing your husband-to-be, things may not turn out quite as you imagined. Will you get to find out who's behind it all, and have your "happily ever after"? Or will you have altered something, and caused something equally terrible to happen? We'll have to wait till the 28th June to find out though, as that's when Time and Eternity hits stores, exclusively for Sony's Playstation 3.
