Sonic CD coming to the XBLA PSN and PC

Just like everyone's favourite blue hedgehog can sneak up behind you at lightning speeds, so to did the announcement from SEGA that Sonic CD, a game that's widely regarded as being the best 2D Sonic game of all time will be seeing a release on the Xbox Live Arcade, Playstation Network, PC, iOS, Windows Phone 7, and Android, with the Wii, strangely, seemingly being the only console that isn't seeing a version of the game.

You'll have to forgive us for a while if we sound a little bit excited, as Sonic CD was a huge part of our childhoods. Too poor to afford a dedicated games console with our meagre pocket money back then, we bought Sonic CD when it was released on the PC way back in 1996. Originally released on the Mega CD some three year's earlier - SEGA's short lived CD playing add-on for the Mega Drive, Sonic CD failed to capture the masses as well as it should have - although that was almost entirely down to the unpopularity of the Mega CD. Loved by critics and SEGA fans alike, Sonic CD will be a welcome addition to the downloadable stores.

Sonic's zooming back to consoles again - although he's zipped right past the Wii!

Set on the Ronseal named Little Planet, Sonic CD sees the famous hedgehog attempting to see off Doctor Robotnik's plan to control the future by stealing the time stones, whilst trying to rescue his girlfriend, Amy Rose, from his evil twin brother, Metal Sonic. It's about as logical as it sounds. On the plus side though, the somewhat ludicrous storyline does allow for one of the most innovative ideas ever seen in a Sonic game, whereby you can switch between future, past, and present versions of a level at set points during the stage, allowing you to find better routes, or access different areas, giving it a heck of a lot of replayability. Coming with full support for Achievements on the Xbox 360, Trophies on the Playstation Network, and with newly reworked widescreen graphics, we can't wait for Sonic CD to touch down. Feast your eyes on the trailer below to get a taste of what lays in store. If you missed out the first time, and our rose tinted glasses aren't deceiving us, you should be in for a treat.
