This week Microsoft seem to have outdone themselves, with an immense game for an immense price - and it seems that, at least for this week, they're going to stop trying to convince us that 1200 Microsoft Points (about £10) is a reasonable price to pay for an arcade game.
Sonic Adventure
Price: 800 Microsoft Points (about £6.67)
The first (and only) Sonic game I have ever finished, Sonic Adventure was amazing back in the day - and it's still more than playable now. It combined classic Sonic platforming, an adventure game and a virtual pet simulation - all in one. Players joined Sonic and his friends on their quest to stop the evil Dr. Robotnik from taking over the world with his liquid-y 'Chaos' monster. Players guided Sonic (and five other characters, including a giant purple cat, name Big) through the platform levels, destroying enemies (and saving the little animals trapped inside them) and collecting rings. Then, they could wonder freely around the world - finding power ups for Sonic and finding 'clues' to what Robotnik was planning. The Chao garden was the virtual pet side of things (and also where I spent most of my time), as it saw you looking after cute teardrop-shaped creatures - who, when you give them an animal you've saved from a level, absorbed its characteristics. Ever fancied a Chao with a lion's mane? Or flippers? You could have any bizarre combination you wanted - and if you raised your chao well, it could even win the chao race mini game. And that made them happy. Which made us happy too.
We highly recommend you give Sonic Adventure a try - for just over a fiver, you won't go far wrong with this one. Or, stay tuned for our full review, where we try it out for you!
