Sesame Street Kinect game in the works
16th February, 2011 By Ian Morris

How to get to Sesame Street? Who'd have thought the answer would be "through Kinect" - but in this new game, recently announced by Warner Bros, and games industry legend Tim Schafer's Double Fine studios, you and your children will be able to journey to Sesame Street from the comfort of your own front room.

Utilising Kinect, Microsoft's motion sensing camera to bring you and your children into the muppet's world, Sesame Street: Once upon a Monster promises to bring the TV show's sense of humour and educational value into your living rooms - and we have no doubt it'll deliver. With a "social and emotional curriculum" constructed by the Sesame Workshop - the non-profit organisation behind the TV show, in Sesame Street: Once upon a Monster, parents and children will step into a storybook world, as they make friends with a variety of crazy and kooky monsters, solving problems, learning life lessons, and dancing, jumping, and generally being active along the way.

COOKIES! Oh wait, no, that's a cake.

In a press release, Tim Schafer, the head of Double Fine Productions, said "It's great to be working with Warner Bros., especially on a game like Sesame Street: Once Upon a Monster, which brings together so many things we all care about. Sesame Street had a profound effect on me, and many members of the Double Fine team, when we were children. So did video games. Now many of us are parents and we want to share with our kids the great experiences we had, but also the completely new ones made possible by cutting-edge technology like Kinect for Xbox 360. So it's a labour of love on many levels."

Even with only a few words of a press release and three screenshots to go by, we can already see the huge potential of this game. With Tim Schafer at the helm (the man behind Brutal Legend, XBLA game Stacking, and the sadly little known Psychonauts), we're practically guaranteed a game that'll enchant children, but has plenty to make the adults smile too. Let's face it - having your child's movements control a crazy looking monster is bound to be a hit. We can imagine the laughter now.

We'll be keeping a close eye on this one. Be sure to check back soon, or add us on Facebook to get the latest updates as soon as they happen.
