Saint's Row IV announced, with bizarre trailer

Tongue in cheek sandbox game coming this August

Saints Row IV announced with bizarre trailer

When publisher THQ went down in flames a few weeks ago, many were understandably concerned about what may happen to the future of some of their favourite games. With series as strong as the ones THQ published though, it should come as no surprise to find out that many seem to have landed on their feet. SEGA bought real time strategy studio Relic, and will be publishing their upcoming WW2 strategy game, Company of Heroes 2 this summer; 2K inherited the WWE license, with WWE 14 set to release later this year; and it seems Saints Row and their developer, Volition, have also managed to hit the ground running, with the announcement of Saint's Row IV. And not only is the game in development - it's coming in August this year.

Originally announced as an expansion pack for Saints Row 3 entitled Enter the Dominatrix, Saints Row IV looks set to be an even crazier take on the already crazy, tongue-in-cheek, gangster 'em up sandbox game that Saints Row has become. Continuing the story of the Third Street Saints, the tale begins with the gang's head honcho somehow being elected as the President of the United States - but the celebrations are soon cut short, as a group of aliens gatecrash the party. As they do. Transporting the gang to a bizarre alien simulation of their home city of Steelport, whilst somehow imbuing them with magical superpowers, the pieces are in place for the Saints to create havoc all over again.

Of course, this being a Saints Row game, it would be the understatement of the year to describe things as being over the top. With the power to leap over buildings, run faster than a sports car, or chuck your enemies around using telekinesis, Saints Row IV looks set to be even more insane than ever before. With a range of all new weapons to wreak havoc with, from a rocket launching double bass case, to a gun that seems to make people's heads grow to gargantuan sizes, and an even greater customisation system that'll let you create your own perfect character, Saints Row IV will be hitting the PS3, 360 and PC on the 20th of August. You can find the game's equally crazy debut trailer below, although you'll likely have to watch it three or four times just to pick up on everything they've crammed in. Be warned though - there is some barely censored nudity in here, so it's definitely not suitable for work, or younger eyes.
