If one things for sure, the next generation of consoles will give players plenty of ways to shoot someone in the face. But between all the 'dude-bro' shooters and serious sports games, hiding amongst the carnage, were a handful of more unusual titles - such as the cartoony detective drama D4, from the famed creator of surreal survival horror game Deadly Premonition, Hidetaka 'Swery65' Suehiro. Billed as an 'episodic noir mystery', D4 sees the game's protagonist attempt to solve the mystery of his wife's murder - and travel back in time to prevent it even happening in the first place.
As for how the game actually plays out, your guess is as good as ours. The only footage that's so far been released is less than a minute long, and doesn't actually show you all that much beyond a brawl on a plane, which sees you beating someone up in what looks suspiciously like a rhythm action game - seemingly pressing the corresponding buttons at the right time as the icons move up the screen to punch someone upside the face. We also spotted a humongous owl in the snow, with a woman who's going to catch her death if she doesn't put on a jumper, as well as a creepy woman with a giant bow in her hair who seems to enjoy the main guy's man-scent - answers on a postcard for what those are supposed to symbolise...
As it seems Microsoft Studios are publishing the title, it's fairly safe to assume this will be a Xbox One exclusive, at least for the time being - which is a bit of a surprise as most of Mr. Suehiro's games have been on Sony platforms in the past. There's also no sign of a release date, nor much more information besides the following announcement trailer - but why not sit back and enjoy a bit of craziness in a game that looks as original as it is insane:
