Arriving in just a few weeks time, the cute monster catching madness of Pokemon Black & White Version 2 will be taking the country by storm all over again. A full on sequel to the first games, Version 2 lets players return to the Unova region several years on, where they find a land which has been encased in ice thanks to a rather disgruntled Legendary Pokemon, and the notorious Team Plasma on the loose. With Pokemon to catch, trainers to battle, and gym badges to collect, we can't wait to get back in the long grass, battling, raising, and caring for our Pokemon, as we try to catch 'em all. Much like with the original Black and White games, Nintendo have announced that for a limited time only, owners of Black and White Version 2 will be able to get their Poke-collection off to the right start, thanks to the ability to download an exclusive Pokemon through the game - although this one doesn't look anywhere as cute and cheerful as the Black/White reward, Victini...
Called Genesect, the exclusive download 'mon appears to be some sort of robotic insect-like creature, with laser eyes and a chuffing great cannon strapped to his head - not the friendliest looking Pokemon to come out of Japan, really. Originally resurrected from a 300 million year old fossil, when the nefarious Team Plasma got hold of him, poor old Genesect has been the subject of some genetic tinkering by the Poke-bad guys, who added the aforementioned gun, and taught it the devastating Techno Blast move in an attempt to make the most powerful Pokemon ever seen. In it Genesect fires a massive beam of light at it's target, dealing a large amount of damage - but the type of damage it does can be altered, depending on the type of Drive (an equippable item) the Pokemon holds, whether it's Electric, Fire, Ice or Water.
In other Poke-news, another new feature has been detailed for Version 2, in the form a few additions to the version-specific areas of Black City and White Forest (no prizes for guessing which game had which). A new White Treehollow area can be found deep in the forest, while a mysterious Black Tower has popped up in Black City - with both locations offering advanced players a whole host of challenging obstacles to overcome, and Pokemon that'll push their team to the test. Each area is packed with high-level critters to battle and rare items, but there's something of a twist, as each floor is randomly generated - meaning you'll never be battling your way around the same maze-like passageways twice.
With the games hitting shops on the 12th of October, you'll be able to download your Genesect for a month only - from launch up until the 12th of November, meaning you'll need to be quick off the mark if you want to stand a chance of completing your Pokedex. Until then, don't forget to pop on down to your local GAME with your DS and a copy of Pokemon Black or White in tow, and download Keldeo for free, as once transferred across to the new games, he'll open up a whole new area for you to explore.
