Playstation owners get a special Disney Infinity 30 pack including Boba Fett

Disney Infinity was one of those games that turned out to be a little bit of a disappointment. With so much potential given its cast of instantly recognisable characters, worlds and stories, you'd think a game which lets you mash up the likes of Cars, Frozen and Toy Story would be amazing. Only in practice it turned out to be kind of limiting, with characters from different films allowed to mix in one mode, and story driven Play Sets that were a disappointment. Still - it's a series that has plenty of fans, and a community of seriously creative folks making some pretty impressive levels for you to download and mess about in. Now approaching it's third game, the previously announced (and imaginatively titled) Disney Infinity 3.0 took centre stage for a while at last night's Sony Conference, to reveal some enticing Sony exclusives.

Detailing the first few play sets for the upcoming game, Disney didn't really reveal much we didn't already know. The first, called the 'Twilight of the Republic Play Set' takes in the events of the first three Star Wars films (by which we mean the prequel trilogy, not the ones that were released first), dealing with the Clone Wars era, and will be the one available at launch, bundled in with every Starter Pack sold. The set promises "epic lightsaber combat" and "fan favourite Jedi at the very peak of their power" - whatever that might mean. Coming bundled with 'popular' Jedis Ahsoka and Anakin, it certainly looks like it's simply going to be another button-mashy combat-driven play set from the trailers...

It's Anakin! And... her!

Then, a month later comes the second mission pack, the "Rise Against the Empire Play Set", which, as you can probably guess, takes in the events of episodes four to six (aka the good ones), and comes bundled with Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker figures. Sounding like the better of the two, this one lets you "relive iconic moments", such as Death Star trench running vehicle sections, AT-AT tripping combat and, of course, more Tie Fighters, X-Wings and Tauntauns than you can shake a lightsaber at.

At first glance, Sony's big E3 conference might seem a bit of a strange place to show off Disney Infinity - but it seems Sony had a bit of an ulterior motive, as Playstation platforms will be getting the special treatment this autumn. Announced as the 'Disney Infinity 3.0 Star Wars Saga Pack', a limited edition, super-duper bundle of Disney Infinity goodness will be hitting the Playstation 3 and Playstation 4, and includes both play sets - bagging you the second one a whole month early, given that the bundle will be available at the game's launch - as well as an exclusive figure of everyone's favourite bounty hunter, Boba Fett. Buying the special pack will be the only way to get your hands on him this side of Christmas - thereby implying that he'll be out in stores on his lonesome in the new year.

He's no good to me dead...

Disney Infinity 3.0 will hit stores this autumn, on pretty much every platform imaginable - the Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Wii U. Why not check out the just-released trailer for the second play set, 'Rise Against The Empire' below:
