Nintendo today announced their financial results for 2009, and whilst it seems to mostly be the usual corporate gibberish, there are some interesting facts amongst the figures.
Overall, the company's net profit was actually down 12% - a huge drop in anyone's terms, although, with their net profit standing at a rather healthy $2.44bn, we don't think anyone's quite rolling out the lifeboats yet.
More interestingly, sales of the Wii were down 21%, but although this may be an indication of flagging interest in Nintendo's machine, it seems more likely that the Wii may be nearing its peak - after all, there are only so many households that can have a console.
However you look at it though, making $2.44bn in the middle of a "global recession", as we're so often reminded by the news, is no mean feat. 2010, on the other hand, is already looking a lot more rosy. With the black Wii launching imminently across the pond in the US, and the 3DS, Nintendo's new 3D handheld apparently launching before Christmas, we're expecting the company's profits to shoot back up again in no time.
