Nintendo Network Premium Detailed
26th November, 2012 By Ian Morris

When Nintendo's latest console, the Wii U, hits shops in just a few days time, day one buyers will be greeted with a selection of different bundles of consoles to buy. There's the Wii U Basic, which comes in white, and has 8GB of storage, and the Wii U Premium, which comes in black, includes a copy of Nintendo Land, and has 32 GB of storage, along with a range of extra features (a ZombiU pack will also be available, which comes with an extra "pro" controller, and switches Nintendo Land out for ZombiU, but for all intents and purposes, it's pretty much the same as the Premium bundle).

One of those perks is something known as Nintendo Network Premium. A special rewards service, a little bit like the stars points that will be coming with every Wii U game, Nintendo Network Premium was originally said to give Premium Wii U owners 10% back on all digital purchases, whether that's digital downloads of full games, downloads of eShop games (for a look at some of the downloadable titles that'll launch alongside the title, check out our feature here), or downloadable extras for games you already own. Now that we're some five days away from the console's launch, however, Nintendo have finally seen fit to detail the service - but it's not as good as we'd initially hoped.

Money off for buying downloadable games like Toki Tori 2? Sounds good to us.

Put simply, Nintendo have explained that for every pound spent, you'll gain 8 points in return. Once you have amassed a total of 500 points, you'll then be able to redeem those points for a £5 discount code to be spent on Nintendo's various online shops, such as the 3DS and Wii U eShops. In real terms, that works out at needing to spend a total of £62.50 to get 500 points - which is a fair bit worse than a 10% discount we were originally set to be receiving.

With only a week to go until the Wii U's launch, the pieces are finally starting to fall into place. Make sure you keep checking back as the week goes on, as there's bound to be more interesting tid-bits coming out.
