Following on from its earlier partnership with Weight Watchers for Wii Fit, Nintendo have now entered into a partnership with the American Heart Association, to promote the real benefits the console's unique brand of gaming can have for your heart.
As a result of the partnership, Wii Fit products in the US will carry a logo saying they're approved by the American Heart Association, in return for $1.5m from Nintendo over three years.
Additionally, Nintendo and the ASA will be throwing on a summit later in the year for representatives from the fields of science, healthcare, research, fitness and video games, to look at the "synergies and potential benefits of active-play video games and physically active lifestyles."
Clyde Yancy, the President of the American Heart Association said: "Our two organizations come from different worlds, but we share a common goal. Showing people accessible ways to stay active has been a part of our mission for decades, but our research tells us nearly 70 percent of Americans are getting no regular physical activity. [...] Nintendo has demonstrated clear leadership in active-play video games with the popularity of the Wii system, and I'm confident that together we can encourage Americans to become more physically active."
