As with the launch of the original DS and the Wii, Nintendo have big plans for the launch of the 3DS, and are again embarking on their "most extensive sampling campaign" so far, which begins in February and continues 'til the console's launch on the 25th of March.
Back in 2005, Nintendo held a similar sampling campaign for the DS, and then again a year later for the Wii, due to the "quantum leap in technology" the consoles represented. However, explaining motion controls in a trailer, or an article, is a lot easier than explaining 3D on the 3DS - after all, how are you meant to illustrate the depth that 3D adds to a game in a 2D trailer? It's the sort of thing you really have to see for yourself to truly appreciate it - and so, that's exactly what Nintendo are planning on letting you do.
As of today, only the first 4 cities the tour will visit have been announced, but there are still plenty more to come. Beginning on the 5th - 6th of February, the 3DS begins its nationwide tour of the country in both Manchester and London, before packing up, and travelling the length of our island to set up stall in Glasgow and Bristol from the 12th - 13th of February. We're sure there'll be plenty more dates to come for other big cities (Birmingham is notorious by its absence), so if you can't get to any of these places, stay tuned to both the official 3DS tour site, as well as this one, as we'll be bringing you more dates and cities as soon as we get them. Until then, you can whet your appetites for the 3DS events, and discover a few of the 3DS' features you'll be able to experience in the flesh in this trailer. In the mean time, keep your browsers pointed to this site, as we'll be posting up our hands-on impressions of the machine, its games, and its features, from Nintendo's recent event in Amsterdam, over the next few days:
