Nintendo seem to like doing this to us. No sooner have we written about their last trailer, and the game's upcoming March release, than developer Traveller's Tales decide to release another one to torment us even more. With the Wii U game hitting stores at the end of next month, the brick-tacular hype train seems to be gaining momentum, with more and more info creeping out. It's been a long time since we've had a not-based-on-a-film-licence Lego game, and while Lego Batman 2 (and the upcoming LEGO Marvel) have their own independent stories, they're still very rooted in the lore of their respective universes. Lego City Undercover instead decides to carve its own path, stepping into the shoes of undercover cop Chase McCain as he works to keep law and order in Lego City.
Those of you who've ever played a Lego game before will know what to expect already - and those of you who haven't don't know what you're missing. A lovable mix of smashing, bashing and crashing, all wrapped up in a cosy blanket of humour and popular culture references, the Lego games are immense fun for everyone - particularly if you have OCD collecting tendencies. With secrets scattered everywhere, you'll need to make use of each characters' unique abilities (or in the case of Chase McCain, different outfits) if you want to see and collect everything there is.
This time round, the trailer delves more into the story - it seems that Chase has some history with the chief bad guy Rex Fury, who's escaped from prison and believed to be behind the recent crime wave sweeping the city. Buildings are being broken into by bands of clowns, with balloons, streamers and big top music wafting all across town - commissioned by the mayor, Mr. McCain heads off after them, swinging across rooftops, crashing into their getaway cars and even beating up a bunch of black belts, determined to put a stop to their tricks. In his own words, "Stop or I will... keep running after you":
Lego City Undercover hits the Wii U on the 28th of March - and we've already got our pre-order for the Chase McCain mini-figure version down.
