It's that time of year again. With the previous Pokemon entry, Pokemon Black/White Version 2 having been out since October, the chances are you'll have seen everything and done everything in the latest Poke-instalment, either hitting a brick wall when you come up against the Elite Four, or persevering past and finishing the game. And with the upcoming (and incredible looking) 3DS Pokemon X and Y games a good six months away, we're in a bit of a Pocket Monster lull at the moment - which is where Nintendo's latest Pokemon download event comes in, helping to breathe some new life into your old game.
These semi-frequent events are how Nintendo like to hand out exclusive 'legendary' Pokemon that you can't catch in your game normally - and often they're rather powerful to boot. This new 'mon, who goes by the name of Meloetta, is a special one that can transform into a different type mid-battle with the help of her special move, Relic Song. Starting out in her 'Aria Forme', which is a dual normal and psychic type, she can then switch to her 'Pirouette Forme', changing to a normal and fighting type instead - which in turn changes which types she's weak to. When you download the Pokemon, it'll be level 50 and in it's default Aria Forme, having learnt the the fighting attack Close Combat, psychic move Psychic as well as Round, which attacks your opponent with a burst of song, and Teeter Dance, which confuses them, meaning they sometimes end up attacking themselves instead. As you may have noticed, she doesn't come pre-equipped with her Relic Song move, meaning you'll have to take her to Cafe Sonata in Castelia City to teach her it - assuming you want to make use of her unique type-changing skill, anyway.
As was the case with their previous giveaway - that of the flame-haired horsey Keldeo - Nintendo have partnered with GAME, meaning you'll have to pop down to your local store in order to nab yourself a Meloetta. Armed with your DS/3DS console and your copy of either Pokemon Black Version 2, Pokemon White Version 2, Pokemon Black or Pokemon White, you'll need to head to one of their stores between the 24th of March and the 19th of April to receive your Pokemon - personally we prefer the ones where you can sit at home in the warm and download it via the internet, but you can't really complain when you're getting a free Pokemon.
We highly doubt this'll be the last Pokemon giveaway Nintendo will ever do - and if you don't want to miss out on any funky new 'mons, it may be worth checking back from time to time. And with Pokemon X and Y due before the end of the year, there's sure to be more Pokemon-related news on the way too.
