You can never beat a good mystery to pique our interest. With Crimes and Punishment: Sherlock Holmes set to provide a fair dose of murder mystery fun later this year, it seems Square Enix are keen to get on the whodunnit bandwagon too, with the announcement today of Murdered: Soul Suspect. And quite the cryptic announcement it is too.
Coming with an ominous enough press release that's light enough on details but with a strange pattern of bolding, there seems to be some sort of a hidden message going on here. We'll post the press release in full so you can see for yourself:
LONDON (February 20th, 2013) - - Square Enix Ltd., the publisher of SQUARE ENIX® interactive entertainment products in Europe and other PAL territories, today challenges gamers to solve the hardest case of all… their own murder.MURDERED: SOUL SUSPECT™takes players into a whole new realm ofmystery where the case is personal and the clues just out of reach. Hunt for leads at www.murdered.com, www.facebook.com/murdered and www.twitter.com/murdered and find out how you can bring your killer to justice.MURDERED: SOUL SUSPECT will be available early 2014 for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Windows PC.
Spooky, eh? Kind of like one of those letters made out of bits of newspaper clippings to disguise their handwriting. Piecing the bolded letters together doesn't help too much either though, sadly, as it all it reveals is the equally mysterious "In the dusk beware". Quite what that means is anyone's guess - but it's enough to get us interested.
With what appears to be a deep and twisting storyline which sees you trying to solve the mystery behind your own death, Murdered: Soul Suspect promises paranormal thrills and spills galore when it launches in 2014 on Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC. And you can call us sceptics if you like, but if the announcement of a "Playstation 3" game for 2014 doesn't coincide with today's upcoming Playstation 4 announcement, we must be losing our touch. We expect a platform change for this one to be revealed tomorrow morning - and perhaps even more on it tonight.
