Game & Wario is essentially the garlic-obsessed bad boy (Wario, that is, not our editor)'s answer to the sugary sweetness of Nintendo Land - as an awesome collection of mini-games intended for both multiplayer and solitary play alike. We've already seen the likes of Arrow, Fruit, Ski and Shutter, but it seems the team have plenty more games where they came from - sixteen to be exact - including some old favourites from the WarioWare series.
WarioWare veterans will likely recognise some of the characters here too - most notably, retro-loving kid 9-Volt, who's the host of the first newly revealed game, which sees you trying to secretly play a smorgasbord of the insanely quick paced WarioWare "micro-games" while "asleep" in bed. After all, as parents always say, you go to bed to go to sleep, not to play games. With 9-Volt's mother regularly popping upstairs to check he's not trying to fit a sneaky game in, you'll have to keep one eye on the GamePad, and one on the TV, ready to snooze when his mother walks in, whilst trying not to screw up one of the games. There's plenty of favourites from the WarioWare series included here, too, including that nose picking game, where you simply have to press A at the right time as a finger moves about beneath a nose for maximum nostril insertion - all we need now is the irritate the cat one and we're sorted.
Sketch, meanwhile, seems to be a Pictionary-alike, in which the player with the GamePad is asked to draw various objects, and the other players need to guess what it is from what they can see on the TV. There's (perhaps) a second game that involves doodling too, this time under Dr. Crygor's watchful eye, in which you seem to have to draw shapes as precisely as possible - the trailer shows someone attempting to draw an equilateral triangle and overshooting by 0.1cm on two of the three sides.
Pirate sees the return of the shield pose "tech demo" from E3 way back when the Wii U was first announced. With some pesky pirates shooting arrows at you, you need to use your GamePad to catch the arrows, before firing them back from whence they came with a sharp flick down of the controller. At the other end of the spectrum, Disco sees you and a friend facing off at either end of the Wii U GamePad, tapping on scrolling coloured notes in a rather Guitar Hero-esque mini-game, while Patchwork is essentially a rather complicated jigsaw where you need to match the pieces of Patchwork to the silhouettes shown on the GamePad. Finally, Kung Fu has you directing a rather bouncy man between platforms by tilting the GamePad, picking up the odd dumpling or two along the way to make sure he doesn't die of hunger.
Game & Wario hits Japanese stores at the end of the month, but so far no UK release date has been announced - although considering it was one of those penned as a 'launch window' game, we're hoping we won't be too far behind. As all the minigame madness you can ever need, why not get a taste for the action from the Japanese trailer below, which features a rather excitable narrator:
