It seems ages ago when Harmonix (creators of the first two Guitar Hero games, and now Rock Band) announced Dance Central, their first game for Microsoft's new Kinect camera - a device which is capable of mapping your entire body with a high degree of accuracy, back in June at the Electronic Entertainment Expo. This time, however, stepping away from Rock Band's familiar plastic guitars, they bought us Dance Central, a dancing game that works by tracking your whole body (as opposed to just where you put your feet on a mat in Dance Dance Revolution, or how you wave your arms and the Wii Remote with Just Dance).
A month or two ago, Harmonix released a list of nine songs to feature in the final game, each of which were sure to leave your body moving. Do you see what we did there?
- Beastie Boys - "Body Movin' (Fatboy Slim Remix)"
- Bell Biv DeVoe - "Poison"
- Lady Gaga - "Poker Face"
- Lipps Inc. - "Funkytown"
- M.I.A. - "Galang '05"
- No Doubt - "Hella Good"
- Salt-N-Pepa - "Push It"
- Snoop Dogg/Pharrell - "Drop It Like It's Hot"
- Young MC - "Bust A Move"
Following on from this, about a week ago (during Gamescom in Cologne) another eleven songs were announced, bringing the total of songs so far to twenty:
- Basement Jaxx - "Rendez-Vu"
- Benny Benassi - "Satisfaction"
- Cascada - "Evacuate the Dancefloor"
- Fannypack - "Hey Mami"
- Kool & The Gang - "Jungle Boogie"
- Kylie Minogue - "Can't Get You Out Of My Head"
- Nelly Furtado - "Maneater"
- Nina Sky - "Move Ya Body"
- Pitbull - "I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)"
- Rhianna - "Pon de Replay"
- Technotronic - "Pump Up the Jam"
If you're wondering what Dance Central is like to play, or just want to laugh at how awful I was at it when we got to play it at Gamescom in Cologne, stay tuned, as we'll be writing up everything from then over the next week or so.
