Now, if you consider yourself any kind of gamer, it's likely that somewhere along the way you have heard of Mega Man. Released way back in the stone age of 1987, Mega Man has claimed an iconic place in our hearts, with his cute art style, fun platforming game play, and of course, his incredible smash attack on Super Smash Bros. Well, if you liked any of the Mega Man games at all, you are sure to love this upcoming release, known as Mighty No.9.
Mighty No.9 was originally founded on the crowd-funding site, KickStarter, and quickly gained the attention of Mega Man fans everywhere. Developers, Comcempt and Inti Creates, are working side by side with Inafune, the creator of Mega Man. As while Mighty No. 9 is not in any way a sequel or spin off of the Mega Man world, its art, game play and main character all heavily resemble and are based upon the classic game series.
The game takes on the familiar 2D side scrolling genre, with elements of 3D graphics and animation, meaning that while you may run sideways as you do in many 2D platformers, the environment appears quite 3D. You will take on the rocket shoes of protagonist, Beck, and jump, run, and shoot your way through a range of fun, puzzling levels, to make your way to the boss of each area, of which there are probably 9.
However, the developers have already revealed plans for multiple DLCs and additional levels for the game. The "Ray" DLC, set to release alongside the full retail game, will allow players to play as Ray, Beck's rival, in a second playthrough of the game. With many more ideas up their sleeves, Mighty No.9 is sure to have plenty of frequent content ready for us gamers to devour.
Mighty No.9 is set to release on PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, Mac and Linux for September 15th in North America, and September 18th in Europe, with plans to expand onto the 3DS and PS Vista later in the year. So start your school year off right with Mighty No.9!
