Straight Right, who are handling porting duties for the Wii U version of Mass Effect 3, have announced that they will be looking to work in a number of different enhancements and innovations to the game before releasing it for the Nintendo faithful.
It's the news that fans of Mass Effect, the groundbreaking Sci-Fi games series produced by BioWare and widely touted as one of the best series of the generation, have been waiting for since the third instalment was announced as one of the Wii U's big hitters. Details are still sketchy but the company has already announced a number of features, such as the ability to use the Wii U gamepad as a map and the ability to control the entire game from the tablet-esque controller if that's your thing.
BioWare commissioned Straight Right, which is an Australia-based developer, with the development of the title upon announcing that it would be one of the launch titles for the Wii U, resulting in the group having to work out a way to integrate the unique control functions of the Wii U with the gameplay that makes the game such a classic in the eyes of many.
Tom Crago, who heads the developer, is very aware of the need to strike the balance, stating: "We're very conscious of not wanting to mess up. We're taking something which ... was exceptionally good. You look at the game and think 'how could I possibly make this better?' ... But first and foremost you say, 'well, I don't want to screw this up.'"
The company are going to have to work very hard to ensure that there is a market for the title come release, as many gamers will already have gotten their fix of the third instalment. The Wii U version of the game will also lack the ability to carry saves over, taking away a large chunk of what made the series so enjoyable in the first place. Still, the developer is keen to acknowledge the challenge it faces and is also very much looking towards how it will meet those challenges in time for the Wii U launch.
