The original Luigi's Mansion was a launch title for the Gamecube almost 10 years ago, and along with being the best launch game, it quickly became one of the must-have games for anyone who decided to pick up Nintendo's purple box. Like Luigi's last starring role (in Mario is Missing) before it, it saw the green-hatted plumber searching for his brother through a haunted mansion that he'd won in a competition he hadn't actually entered, using a glorified vacuum cleaner (known as the Poltergust, created by resident boffin, Professor E. Gadd) as a ghost-busting weapon. Apart from being slightly too short, it was brilliant, and for years now we've been hoping for Nintendo to make a sequel.
And after all these years, it seems like they've listened.
Announced during Nintendo's E3 Conference yesterday, Luigi's Mansion 2 is a full-size sequel to the other brother's paranormal adventure coming soon to the 3DS. Promising to fix the main problem people had with the original, it looks set to offer multiple mansions for you to explore, which should help to make it last longer. We're just wondering what the story's going to be, as Luigi can't really win ANOTHER mansion. Has he set up shop as some kind of supernatural pest controller, despite his fear of ghosts? Has the recession hit the Mario Brothers that badly? We'll just have to wait and see - and unfortunately, we could be in for quite a wait, as unlike the other games it was shown with, Nintendo of America head honcho Reggie didn't announce it'd be coming this year.
Still, we're willing to wait, because with a new Mario platformer, Mario Kart and Starfox confirmed for before Christmas, it's looking like a busy few months for the 3DS. We'll have more information on Luigi's Mansion 2 over the coming months, so be sure to check back and see!
