LittleBigPlanet is one of those games that never ceases to amaze us. An adorable multiplayer platformer with an insane amount of customisation and creation options - including a fully functional (and surprisingly easy to use) level editor, we're in awe of the skill of it's active community, who publish levels that range from eerily accurate versions of the Bioshock and Dead Space intros, to a gigantic breakfast-themed adventure, to dodging a horde of hungry, hungry Pac-Men with a taste for Sackboys. Yet when we had a play with the editor, all we had to show for a few hours work was a 'door' that infinitely scrolled up the screen and a terrible cardboard rendition of Charmander (although it was arguably better than this one).
Last year saw the release of the third main entry in the series, the imaginatively titled LittleBigPlanet 3, which saw the return of the lovable Sackboy, this time accompanied by three new heroes - the soaring bird Swoop, the swappable big/little guy Toggle and the cutesy we're-not-entirely-sure-what-he-is four-legged runner, Oddsock. Mixing things up a little, each one brought with them their own unique sets of levels, skills and abilities. And, at the end of the game, having saved the little corner of the Imagisphere known as Bunkum, the quartet set off for what they thought was home in one of Newton's inventions - although it seems, things didn't go quite to plan.
'The Journey Home' is a newly announced downloadable expansion pack for Little Big Planet 3, which details the friends' 'grand detour' of LittleBigPlanet, taking in a whole new set of levels, co-operative challenges and collectable bits and pieces for your creations. Apparently based on 'fan-favourite themes and characters' from the first two LittleBigPlanet games, the expansion brings with it a whole host of new tweaks and upgrades too, even going so far as to give Oddsock a new power up - a spring he can seemingly strap to his backside to bounce around the level.
But that's not all - to celebrate the fact it's been six months now since LittleBigPlanet 3 hit the Playstation 3 and Playstation 4, you'll be able to download three new Sackboy outfits for your game, absolutely free. Each is theoretically themed after a different one of the studios that worked on the game - a sumo suit for Sumo Digital, a station master for The Station and a... weird monkey thing for Tarsier Studios.
The LittleBigPlanet 3: The Journey Home Premium Adventure Pack DLC (a little bit of a mouthful...) will hit the Playstation Store next month sometime, with a concrete date and pricing still to be announced.
