LEGO Worlds PS4, Xbox One and Steam release date confirmed!

The open world LEGO take on Minecraft is coming to console - and bringing with it some split-screen co-operative fun!

LEGO Worlds PS4 Xbox One and Steam release date confirmed
29th November, 2016 By Sarah Morris

Oh LEGO, you sneaky devils. Way back in August, we went hands on with the game at Gamescom, and specifically asked if there were any plans to bring it to consoles, and you said no. You told us that the open world LEGO build 'em up would remain a PC exclusive, via Steam's Early Access program, until at least early next year "before we'd even be looking into it". And so, it was with equal parts surprise and excitement we opened the email that landed in our inbox during our lunch break, which declared that LEGO Worlds would be hitting up the Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC next February, with a simultaneous launch across all three.

Lego Worlds gives you a huge open world to go wild in.

For the uninitiated, LEGO Worlds is a huge bricktacular playground where you can create, build and destroy to your hearts content. Somewhat similar to Minecraft, the only real limit to your creations is your imagination, as you can make everything from the Taj Mahal to a giant toilet to your own medieval castle, brick by LEGO brick, from the ground up.

However, if you're struggling to get your creative juices flowing, LEGO Worlds also includes a healthy dose of quests as per LEGO tradition - much like the open worlds you'll find in LEGO Marvel Avengers, LEGO Batman and LEGO Dimensions, you'll have various LEGO Worlds inhabitants asking for a helping hand. Whether it's finding a sword for a king, protecting a farmer from a zombie invasion, or building a home for a caveman, there's plenty to keep you busy during your quest to become the greatest Master Builder the LEGO World has ever seen. And, as an added bonus, LEGO Worlds also gives LEGO's lesser game-ified brands the chance to shine, with worlds, sets and characters based on the non-licensed LEGO line up.

Seriously, HOW GOOD DOES THIS LOOK

In the words of Jonathan Smith, Head of Production at TT Games, players can "go on an exciting journey to become a Master Builder, in an open-world made completely of LEGO-built environments, whether customising characters, exploring in vehicles, building structures, or discovering an expansive range of items, characters and creatures throughout the worlds, there's the freedom to create anything imaginable." David Haddad, President of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment adds that with Lego Worlds "TT Games has created an expansive, digital universe that combines unlimited creativity with the LEGO humour that fans love." bringing with it a whole "new experience that embodies all the fun of physical LEGO brick building."

Online multiplayer also promises to let you and a friend explore each other's LEGO Worlds together, to co-operate and create some serious masterpieces, wreak havoc and destroy all their hard-build creations - or simply race each other round the island to decide once and for all which is the fastest, a yeti or a steamroller? But for those who've played the previous LEGO games, you'll know that local multiplayer has always been THE way to play, and today's announcement revealed that it will be an option for not just PC players, but for those on consoles too! So now you and a buddy can sit together on a sofa and create to your heart's content, no internet connections and subscriptions required! Yay!

What a way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

LEGO Worlds will be hitting the Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC via Steam on the 24th February 2017, in around three months' time. Playstation 4 players will also have early access to a LEGO Agents DLC pack of add-on content, which features new characters, vehicles, weapons and more from the Agents range of LEGO toys to expand your LEGO Worlds experience - from the sounds of it, it will also hit the Xbox One and PC sometime later.
